We Believe…
In the essentials, unity.
In the non-essentials, freedom.
In all things, love.
The word theology comes from two Greek words: “theos”, meaning “God”, and “logos”, meaning “word”. So theology is words about God. When we put to words what we believe about God, we discover that God has been writing a story of hope and redemption for all the world. This story is a movement from creation to new creation, and God has given us a role to play in that story, in the restoration of our relationships with God, each other, ourselves, and creation.
Breaking it Down…
A loving God created us in His image in order for us to have a relationship with Him and with people.
Genesis 1:27-28
Unfortunately, all of us at some point have believed the lie, rejected our true image, and wandered away from the truth of God’s love.
Romans 1:25, 3:23
Because of broken relationship, Jesus lived, died, and rose from the dead to re-establish relationship with us and to give us life to the fullest, now and forever.
1 John 4:9-10; 2 Corinthians 5:17-18
Relationship with God through Jesus brings us back into God’s family where we are joined together in a community of faith, love, and accountability with our adopted brothers and sisters.
1 John 4:11-12
The Holy Spirit empowers our relationship with God and others and helps us to maximize our gifts, abilities, experiences, and personality in order to live a life of purpose.
1 Peter 4:10-11
God has given us His inspired Word as a guide for living the truth and for making a difference in the lives of others.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
We are called by God to bless others and help them find their way back to Him.
2 Corinthians 5:19-20
One day this world will end and God promises a new reality where suffering and pain don’t exist. As believers, we exist to look toward that hope but to also partner with God in sharing glimpses of that hope.
Revelation 21:4
A SACRAMENT is a Christian rite recognized as of particular importance and significance. While we affirm the value in many other rites and practices within the Church, there are THREE sacraments of essential significance to the Church, which affirm our faith and unity in Christ.
New believers share their faith with the world through BAPTISM. When Christians are baptized, they fulfill the command of Jesus (Matt. 28:19–20) and are submerged in water to identify with the death of Jesus and rise out of the water to identify with his resurrection (Rom. 6:1–10; Col. 2:12). This identification with the death, burial, and resurrection through baptism testifies to the fact that we believe in faith that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, rose three days later, and now is alive and Lord over all of creation. While we generally perform baptism by immersion in water following one’s profession of faith, we do not require people who have been baptized by another means (sprinkling or pouring of water) or in another denominational or non-denominational church to be baptized again to join Momentum Church.
The community of believers should regularly partake in COMMUNION, which is a symbolic act reaffirming our belief that Jesus offered Himself as a sacrifice to save us from the penalty of sin through faith in His gift of love. Communion is a practice of the church, whereby believers collectively share bread and wine (or grape juice) in observance of this practice instituted by Jesus prior to His death for us on the cross (Luke 22: 7-20). We observe open communion at Momentum Church, meaning all who profess faith in Christ and seek to live in harmony with God and others are welcome to partake in communion when the opportunity is offered.
God intentionally designed and created humanity male and female for each other. We believe MARRIAGE is ordained and instituted by God, and according to Scripture, can only exist and be fulfilled between one man and one woman. Jesus affirmed this reality in His teaching (Matthew 19:4-6) and we believe Scripture does not allow for another understanding of marriage. We respect and adhere to the authority of human government insomuch as this authority does not compel us to act in a manner contrary to Scriptural authority. We believe followers of Christ are compelled to love, respect, and treat all persons with dignity, regardless of their position on Scriptural authority and/or human law. Contrary to popular notions, we believe it is possible to love all people and still hold firm to the principles of Scripture.
Momentum Church is a non-denominational church, autonomous in governance, structure, and vision. We have a voluntary affiliation with Indiana Ministries (Fishers, Indiana) of the Church of God Movement, with international headquarters in Anderson, IN. Over the past 125 years, over 7,000 church communities trace their roots to the Church of God Movement around the world.
