Every great dream has a story.
The Story Behind Momentum Church:
God is not safe or boring. Just read the Bible – the Christian life is supposed to be exciting, filled with adventure and purpose!
I did not grow up in church and Rebecca went to church as a child. We both spent years on the outside of faith trying to figure it all out. Our perception of church was that it was old, irrelevant, boring, and stuffy. Neither of us came to faith IN a church building, yet both of us were inextricably drawn to Christian community (the Church) because someone dared to reach out and include us in the great adventure of faith. We knew early on God had an adventure in store for us, but realized the churches we attended had little interest in joining us in the adventure or helping us discover our path. In short, we had no traction and no momentum!
We dreamed about a church where people would want to go. We dreamed of a church which would reflect the daring, creative, exciting God you read about in the Bible. We dreamed of a church exploring countless ways to connect with people who were searching…just like us. Somewhere along the way, God said, “You want excitement and adventure? Pack your bags and your family, sell your house and go make this dream happen!”
We have partnered with a group of like-minded people, family, and friends we’ve made over the years, who have graciously offered to support us in fulfilling this dream. After some searching and a bit of prayer, we stepped out in faith and landed in Crown Point, Indiana in 2014. As we have responded to God’s call, we have met lots of people here who share this dream and have joined us on the adventure!
In November 2014, we launched Momentum Church in Crown Point. In our first couple years, God blessed us with several unique places in which to meet. We moved from Gelsosomo’s Pizzeria in Crown Point to the Southlake YMCA to Crown Point High School. With each transition, we learned and grew.
In the summer of 2017, God blessed us with the opportunity to renovate and move into the old Chicago Title Insurance Building across from the Lake County Government Center on Main Street in Crown Point. This 18,000 sq. ft. facility has enabled us to develop more ministries and serve our community more effectively. We moved in and had our first service in this new facility on November 12, 2017. With this highly visible and spacious location, we are excited about reaching out to our community.
If you are interested in taking the journey with us, we’d love to invite you to join us for a cup of coffee and one of our worship gatherings. We also love having people over to our house for lunch or dinner, so we welcome you to join us sometime.
God is not safe or boring. The story is still being written. Come, help us write that story! It’s a page-turner…we can’t wait to see what happens next!
